Pantomime - Hansel and Gretel in the City
Despite the adverse weather conditions, the students of Pobalscoil Iosolde overcame adversity and brought to life a well known fairytale. This new version of Hansel and Gretel in the City was written by Ms Davys, produced by Ms McEnroe and directed by Ms Eviston. On the 15, 16 and 17 December a wonderful cast entertained us with boos, hisses, singing and dancing.
Chloe Ward, as Gretel the country bumpkin, leaves her home in Kerry to seek her fortune in the big bad city. There she meets the unsuccessful busker Hansel, played by Sam Gill-Murphy. Their ensuing adventures in a city office, gymnasium and hostel provided the entertainment for the audience . Christy O'Sullivan, a street-wise Panto Dame, could give beauty tips to all the ladies in the audience. He was particularly attractive in his pink tutu. Orla Butler and Daniel McFarlane seemed very much at home in a country setting. Two first years, Ryan Ellis and Christ King, were outstanding as the narrators. It is good to know that we have budding thespians to take the place of the current 6th year actors who will be leaving us this year.
Dean Grehan, the music maestro, ensured that the show moved along at a brisk pace. Thanks to the expertise of the backstage crew, set designers, set helpers, sound and lighting technicians this pantomime ran without a hitch.
